Counseling

Children & Adolescents

What are teens longing for?

"1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6–17 experience

a mental health disorder each year.

53,000 South Carolinians age 12 - 17 have depression. High school students with depression are more than 2x more likely to drop out than their peers. 56.2% of South Carolinians age 12–17 who have depression did not receive any care in the last year."

Relationships

Live, Love, Listen!

Research consistently reports the strength of emotional connection is at the top of the ingredient list for lasting relationships. What do we need to keep us together in the 10 big areas of life: family, wealth, romance, health/fitness, growth/learning, social life, career/business, enjoyment, environment, and spirituality?

Family

Family counseling offers hope in strengthening emotional connections, encouraging healthy interactions, and improving parent/child relationships. Through family therapy, I am able to offer a neutral safe place to problem solve and establish new family life patterns. I use an eclectic and integrative approach to family therapy.

Play Therapy

Play to grow.

"Play Therapy is a developmentally congruent intervention that helps children build coping skills, enhance their capacity for self-regulation, and promotes positive self-esteem (Bratton et al., 2005; Lin & Bratton, 2015; Ray et al., 2015). The association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as the 'systematic use fo the theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development'."

Assoc. for Play Therapy Board of Directors, April 2020

Depression & Anxiety

The weight of change on the internal system.

"More than half of Americans report

that COVID-19 has had a negative

impact on their mental health.

In February 2021, 37.6% of adults in

South Carolina reported symptoms of anxiety or depression.

23.3% were unable to get needed counseling or therapy. "

Trauma & PTSD

You are not alone.

"About 6 out of every 100 people (or 6% of the U.S. population) will have PTSD at some point in their lives. Many people who have PTSD will recover and no longer meet diagnostic criteria for PTSD after treatment. About 5 out of every 100 adults (or 5%) in the U.S. has PTSD in any given year. In 2020, about 13 million Americans had PTSD. Women are more likely to develop PTSD than men. About 8 of every 100 women (or 8%) and 4 of every 100 men (or 4%) will have PTSD at some point in their life. This is in part due to the types of traumatic events that women are more likely to experience compared to men."
